Plants v. Zombies: Garden Warfare is an incredibly unique team-based shooter that puts players in the shoes of the characters from the popular online game. It's not exactly the first game you'd think of when it comes to fast-paced shooter action, but it's actually an incredible experience for those who are able to look beyond the premise. If you liked the mobile game or you like shooters in general, you'll probably find something to like here. The download runs quite well, with seamless support for most players. It's definitely one of the more unique gaming choices you'll be able to make this year.

So, what's so good about the game? As you might imagine, it's all in the game play. Plants vs. Zombies is all about learning how to master one of the game's classes and going after the enemy. It's a good idea to think of the game less as s successor to Plants v. Zombies proper and more as a successor to games like Battlefield: 1943. It might look cartoony, but what it really is is a great, casual shooter. All of the mechanics are tight, and firefights usually come down to who knows the class better. That means there's a great skill curve in place, but that no one's going to own the field just because they chose the right class.

At the other end of the spectrum is the audience. Since you won't be playing with the usual Call of Duty group, you'll get the chance to play in relative peace while you're learning. Yes, that means most of the audience is kids - but it also means the the kids playing aren't going to relentlessly hound you while you're picking up the controls. This makes the game perfect for anyone who wants to play a good casual shooter without having to deal with the usual grief.

Is the game perfect? Of course not. It's not all that deep, for example, and it's a little repetitive. You aren't going to go in to grind Prestige, and you might have trouble finding matches now that the sequel is out. With that said, it's still a fine casual game and one that targets a unique audience. When you can get a match going, it's a thing of beauty. When you can't, you'll have to make your own fun. If that's the biggest downside, you know the game is a good choice.

So, what's the verdict?

PRO:

- Great casual shooter

- Easy to pick up and play

- Competitive, but not hostile

CONS

- Definitely made for consoles

- Hard to find a match

- Can get repetitive

This is a great game for those who want the fun of a shooter without having to master the latest CoD or Battlefield. It's not the best game on the market or even the best shooter in the category, but it's certainly a very good way to kill a few hours. You can definitely do a lot worse than giving this one a spin.
